Membership
There are no geographic restrictions for membership in
The FAIRFIELD COUNTY BAR ASSOCIATION, which is currently
at over 850 legal professionals. Membership and program
participation is open to lawyers, court clerks, law
students, legal administrators and paralegals, and other
professionals.
Dues Structure
Dues for lawyers admitted to practice for 4 years or
more are $125; for those admitted three years or less,
$105. Lawyers not yet admitted to any bar, law students,
legal administrators and paralegals are $65. There is no
membership fee for lawyers practicing 50 years or more,
or Temporary Assistant Clerks of the Court. Associate
membership dues for other professionals are $125.
CLE Programs
The Association has twenty-five Law Committees that
sponsor a wide range of Continuing Legal Education
programs throughout the year. For those lawyers who
practice in New York, The FAIRFIELD COUNTY BAR
ASSOCIATION is an accredited provider for New York
State CLE.
Social Events
The Association holds various social events throughout
the year, including: its annual meeting in June at a
local club on the water; a summer golf outing; a holiday
party in January; and additional activities that focus
on Law Day, May 1.
Pro Bono
The FAIRFIELD COUNTY BAR ASSOCIATION has a proud history
of involvement in pro bono projects and works closely
with the Connecticut Bar Association and its Law Works
for People program. The Association sponsors an annual
road race, THE FRED WEISBERG MEMORIAL ROAD RACE named in
honor of its deceased 1989-90 President, Fredric H.
Weisberg of Cummings & Lockwood, who cared deeply about
the provision of legal services for the poor. Proceeds
of this race are used to hire summer legal interns to
work at the Stamford office of Connecticut Legal
Services, Inc.
Young Lawyers
The FAIRFIELD COUNTY BAR ASSOCIATION formed its Young
Lawyers Committee in 1996. The Committee sponsors
programs for new admittees and lawyers changing their
area of practice.
The Committee also organizes receptions and other social
events throughout the year to enable new lawyers to meet
each other and senior members of the bar.
Mock Trial
The Association, as part of its LAW DAY activities,
sponsors an annual Mock Trial. Students from high
schools in Fairfield County participate and are coached
by teachers and members of the bar. Stamford Superior
Court judges preside at the trial, and Association
members judge the competition.
Newsletter
The Fairfield County Bar News is published and sent to
each member quarterly. Our newsletter includes a
message from the President, professional announcements,
classifieds, a calendar of programs and events, and
other articles of interest to our members.
